12.2 Executive Craft Committee


12.2.1 The day-to-day running of The Guild is under the control of the Executive Craft Committee which consists of: The Guild Master, the three Officers of The Guild and no more than 8 other members of The Guild.


12.2.2 The Executive Craft Committee has the following Officers who are elected by the members for one year terms:

Chairman - who chairs all Executive Craft Committee meetings when present.

Secretary - who is responsible for the keeping of all books and records of The Guild, including the members’ register (containing the names and addresses of every member and such other contact details as the member supplies) and minute-taking in all Executive Craft Committee meetings.

Cofferer - who ensures that the financial affairs of The Guild are kept in good order and that annual accounts and a financial report are submitted to the Executive Craft Committee for it to put before the full Guild membership at the next Common Hall.


12.2.3 Up to 8 additional Executive Craft Committee members may be co-opted by the Officers and existing Executive Craft Committee for a term of one year, after which time they may be re-elected.


12.2.4 A quorum for the Executive Craft Committee meetings is four and must include The Guild Master and/or an Officer nominated by The Guild Master.


12.2.5 The members present will elect a chair for any meeting where the Chairman is not present.


12.2.6 The number of Executive Craft Committee members will be limited to 12 at any one time and all positions (including Chairman, Secretary and Cofferer) are nominal and may be taken up by any co-opted Craft Guild members of Freeman status or higher as agreed by a majority consensus of the existing Executive Craft Committee members preferably at Annual General Meeting. Additional members will remain in their position until such time as their yearly term has elapsed or until a replacement member has been selected.


12.2.7 Membership of committees, including as Officers and general members of the Executive Craft Committee, will be automatically continued each year unless the member gives written notice of resignation or there is a majority decision of the members of the respective committee to release or replace the committee member (where possible, this should take place at the Annual General Meeting.


12.2.8 Members are always eligible for re-election to the Executive Craft Committee for further terms as Officers, auditors or general members with no restriction on the number of terms.  Where possible, retirement from or re-election to positions and co-opting of new members should take place at the Annual General Meeting.


12.2.9 Minutes of Executive Craft Committee meetings must be taken and made available to all craft Guild members as soon as practicable after meetings.


12.2.10 The Executive Craft Committee has the following powers and responsibilities:             

           (i) Supervision and direction of the day-to-day running of The Guild.

(ii) Preparation and presentation to the Common Hall of a written annual report on The Guild and its activities (annexing the annual accounts and the Cofferer’s financial report)

(iii) Appointment of sub-committees whose membership must include at least one member of The Executive Craft Committee, to which it may delegate powers and duties on such terms as the Executive Craft Committee sees fit.


12.3 Trust and charity committee


12.3.1 Trustees will number no less than 4 and no more than 12 at any one time, all of whom are voted in by the Membership.  They must be comprised of at least two thirds craft members. The Head Master is automatically a member of committee and does not normally vote in any matters but can exercise the power of lasting veto on any motion on behalf of a known majority of the overall Guild craft membership.  If the Head Master is uncertain of the general position of the Guild's overall craft membership on any motion made within these committee meetings, he/she retains the right to impose a temporary veto to stand until such time as a full Craft Membership is assembled and takes vote on the matter.  The veto will then be upheld or retracted accordingly.


12.3.2 The Almoner chairs this committee.


12.4 Training committee


Chaired by The Head Master and consisting of Board of Masters only (Trustees may become a member of committee if they choose but with no voting rights)


12.5 Education committee


Responsible for directing initiatives aimed at assisting teachers in schools colleges and universities.


12.6 Craft and industry committee


Chaired by Headmaster consisting of Board of Masters only (Trustees can choose to become a member of this committee but will have no voting rights)


12.7 Guild link committee


Responsible for links with other Guilds and organisations nationally and internationally.


Chaired by The Clerk


12.8 Membership committee


Responsible for overseeing all aspects of Guild membership.


12.9 Collection and library committee


Responsible for the expansion and maintenance of the Guild's collections, library and archives.


Remembrancer must sit on this committee


12.10 Norwich committee


Responsible for engaging with the local community and providing help where possible.


12.11 Tradition, pageant, feast and services committee


Responsible for planning guild feasts, services, processions, livery and mysteries.


The Remembrancer as keeper of Guild tradition chairs this committee.


12.12 Sports and activities committee


Run by Apprentice master and Apprentices arranging activities such as fencing, tug of war and debating society etc. (the only committee on which only apprentices sit).


12.13 Investments committee


The investments committee is responsible for planning and overseeing the Guild's investments, building program and property portfolio.


Gildencraft C.I.C. or any future Guild trading arm will support The Guild in the building of houses; some to be sold some to be kept and a portfolio of properties to be established and used to earn revenues through affordable rents to members and the community.


12.14  Disciplinary and appeal committees can be assembled and act as and when the need arises.  (See points 1-15 of the Appendix to Guild Unincorporated Association rules).
