Definition of Meritorious Servitude

 

Guild membership and advancement is earned through meritorious servitude, an archaic phrase which, in this case denotes service given to the Guild in a praiseworthy, laudable, commendable, admirable, estimable, creditable, worthy, worthwhile, deserving, excellent, exemplary manner over a number of years*.  

 

This service should be well above a minimum to be expected and not include that through paid work, that morally expected or that legally required of an individual. The person demonstrating meritorious servitude is, by definition, totally reliable and trustworthy; they also embody the character and values expected of a Guild Member; respect, craftsmanship, compassion, will and tenacity.

 

The recognition and subsequent reward of meritorious servitude is ultimately at the discretion of the Executive Craft Committee of The Guild.

 

*Service over a period of 5 years or more and involving some effort or hardship. Neither an hour of work per week over the phone or on a laptop nor occasional or fair weather attendance can be considered meritorious servitude.
