On 10th May, three apprentices and The Master of The Guild were in Oxford to meet with Jude Barrett, Education Officer at The Ashmolean Museum for further planning for the forthcoming Festival of Archaeology event at the museum.
Plans are underway for a Guild procession on both days of the weekend event - 21st and 22nd July - with an open invitation for the people of Oxford to join us on our route from the former home of The Ashmolean, The Museum of the History of Science, to the grand forecourt of its contemporary premises on Beaumont Street, where apprentices will carve pieces designed especially for the event in our temporary lodge. The apprentices have envisioned the progression of Anglo-Saxon design and architecture into the modern day in a hypothetical world where the Norman Conquest never occurred. They will be on hand throughout the weekend to speak to visitors about the designs they are carving, the craft of stonemasonry and Their Guild. The Master will also give a talk within the museum on Saturday and Sunday. Further information about the event schedule will be available on The Ashmolean site at the end of the month but you can also watch this space for more details.
